Snap-through in different states
Abstract:
This talk will deal with snap-through instabilities in slender structures.
In the first part, we will show how architected structures in which sequences of local snap-through events can take place can exhibit a behaviour akin to classical memory effects. We will then draw an analogy with finite state machines to show that these objects can perform basic computing tasks.
In the second part we will focus on the dynamical snap-through instability in a buckled beam. I will present preliminary results showing how rapid actuation of a beam can lower its snap-through threshold.
