Mechanics and Acoustics Laboratory
The LMA is a joint AMU-CNRS-Centrale Méditerranée research unit.
Its main areas of expertise are solid mechanics (structures, materials, interfaces) and acoustics (wave propagation in complex fluid and solid media).
The laboratory is organized into three research teams. The Materials & Structures team focuses on the theoretical study of solid media, their experimental characterization and the establishment of behavioral models. The Waves & Imaging team specializes in the study of mechanical wave propagation for the non-invasive imaging, characterization and/or control of complex fluid and solid media. The Sounds team federates work on audible sounds, from the point of view of their production, control (active or passive) and perception (experienced or desired).
The LMA boasts an exceptional set of platforms and experimental resource centers (over 5,000 m2) organized into 5 thematic fields. These fields are divided into 9 platforms, 3 of which have the Aix-Marseille Technology Platform label.
Our research results in a high level of scientific output (articles and conference papers), as well as significant contractual activity based on private and public funding. The LMA boasts a rich and varied industrial partnership, including two joint laboratories, MISTRAL (with CEA) and LIAMFI (with Buffet Crampon), a research chair (with Yamaha), a start-up (ARTEAC) and numerous industrial collaborations.
